Starting to make some decisions....

We now have less than 16 weeks to go and are quickly realizing that this little bundle of sunshine will be here before we know it. So, with that said, we decided it was time to start getting things in order.  Here are some of the things we have been working on:

1. Baby room (and should we have one?): This was a tricky decision because we will be moving back to Columbus, OH, when our baby is four months old. We will also be putting our house on the market in the early spring, so there is the chance that our house could sell before the baby even sleeps in his room. However, I know myself very well and those of you who witnessed how much time I spent putting together my classroom my first year of teaching would not be surprised to know that I need to do this to feel "prepared." So why this might sound crazy to others, we will be decorating a nursery for our little baby boy. However, I have made compromises in my choices of paint, decorations and so on. To put it in words, simple but sweet!

2. Baby room decor: So with decision #1 made, we decided on a "theme." I almost hate to use the word theme because we would like to keep the room very simple. Instead, I guess you could say, we made a decision on the bedding. I fell in love with three fabric designs including owls, polka dots and zig zags. So we will be incorporating owls and birds into the decor of the baby room. For me, I knew I wanted birds from the beginning. When I hear birds chirping or singing, I think of my grandpa and how much he loved them. He also loved little babies and his face lit up every time he saw one. So this is my way of including a part of him.

3. Paint color: We decided to paint the room a neutral color because we will be selling the house soon. The color we chose is a beige color called Hush. I think it will look much better than the green melon color we have now.

4. Baby registry: With a baby shower before Christmas, it was definitely time to finalize the decisions on the baby registry. Although this should be an exciting thing to do, at times, it was very difficult. I went back and forth on decisions about swings, car seats, bouncers, bottles, you name it. I know every parent wants the best for their child and as a first time parent, all of these product choices can be intimidating and overwhelming. So I did my best but also kept in the back of my mind what both of our parents remind us, "you turned out just fine without a lot of these things, and so did all of your siblings, cousins...."

Next on the list is registering for child birth classes at the hospital. I have now visited the hospital twice to greet friends and their beautiful newborn babies. I was very impressed during both visits and look forward to learning more about the hospital and what they have to offer.
